The Wild Side

>> Saturday, June 30, 2012

Hi Everyone,

It's Karin, filling in for Pam today.... Not only is the lion the king of the jungle, he's also the king of this card.  The King Lion is such a beautiful new stamp and it reminded me of something when I was creating with it.  Last time I visited the zoo, I was present for the loudest lion roar ever.  Well, maybe it wasn't Africa safari loud, but it sure took me by surprise!  Normally he's just sleeping in the shade, so to see him up, and to actually hear him, was a real treat :)

I decided to distress my card, so after stamping him, I tore and inked the edges of my paper.  I layered him on some embossed distressed stripes, and used the new Peacock Feather along the side of my card.  I used some twine knots for embellishments, thought that looked rustic and blanced it out with 3 brown epoxy stickers on the other side.

Here you can see that I embossed the Peacock Feathers with some rainbow embossing powder.

And I can't forget to mention the Walk on the Wild Side sentiment that pairs perfectly with him!

Pop on over to the DRS Designs store and see all of the newly released stamps!

Have a great Saturday!

Happy Octopus

>> Friday, June 29, 2012

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!
Is this heat ridiculous or what? Most summers we only crack 90 for a little while around the end of July/early August. This weekend we're supposed to be over 100! That's just wrong! So maybe my card won't really cool you off, but at least you can think cool, watery thoughts when looking at it.

For my watery blue band, I used a brayer and a blue rainbow pad to add the color. Then I dropped some water from a little paintbrush for more of the watery look. When it dried, I stamped the little bubbles with permanent black ink.
The happy octopus was colored, cut out and I added some googlie eyes to him. He’s inside a circle frame I used Spellbinders circle dies to cut and stamped the greeting twice around it. I added some very small dew drop like bubbles for a little extra something. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Stay cool!

Stamps: DRS Designs- Happy Octopus, Bubbles, Happy Birthday Arc
Paper: Neenah white
Ink: Ancient Page coal, Kaleidacolor Blue Breeze rainbow pad
Accessories: Tombow markers, scallop dot border punch (Martha Stewart), Spellbinders circle dies, googlie eyes, small dew drop clones (floral section of craft store)

Sending Happy Thoughts

>> Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much to all who joined us for the blog hop yesterday...We've had a wonderful time creating with these stamps, so I hope you had fun along the way too.

Congrats to Kathy Vogel, you've won the 6 stamp prize package!  Please email your information to  info@drsdesigns.com to claim your prize.

Now, on to today's card share....Is this Happy Octopus not the cutest ever???!  I love his smiling face and I just think he's the best for any kind of card :)  He's just stamped, colored with Copic markers and cut out with my Spellbinders Nestabilities.  I decided to dry emboss my backgrounds using some of my old Fiskars texture plates, but I made sure I stamped my Bubbles first.  I added the pennant with the sentiment,  Sending you happy thoughts, as my own take on a "speech or thought bubble".

I added a strip of card stock stamped with the Open Plaid in a matching blue, and finished it off with large brads and a hanging charm, hopefully keeping the card on the boyish side of things.

Here's a better shot of the dry embossing on the bottom, staying with the water theme :)

Thanks for taking a peek, and remember all the newly released stamps can be found right here!

Pink Leopard?

>> Friday, June 22, 2012

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!
Isn't my pink leopard pretty? She's a sneak peek from the wonderful new DRS Designs images. Love this lazy leopard but I bet you never thought you’d see a pink one. Pink Panther, maybe. But hey, I found this really neat pink ribbon w/ leopard spots and I just had to use it. This wasn't the exact layout I planned on using,  but when I was looking for some black card stock, I found this cute little black oval frame and that was all she wrote. I decided I needed to use it and I did a quick little out of the box cutting on the tree and branches of my image to fit the oval.
The background is an embossing folder. It took me longer to figure out how to color it like I wanted than anything else on this card. I arrived at this final result by sponging on the pink ink (not too carefully…there’s a lot of background so go for it!). Then I rubbed the soft sand ink pad across the high points and lastly, tapped the black ink (with a light touch) on the high points, kind of hit and miss.  I think it goes with the ribbon really well now. The finished card is 4.25 x 5.50.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Be sure to check out all the new releases tomorrow!
Supplies:
Stamps: DRS DesignsNew! Coming Soon!
Paper: Neenah white, black, kraft
Ink: Ancient Page coal, Distress spun sugar, Memories soft sand
Accessories: Tombow markers, Spellbinders small classic oval die, Cuttlebug leopard embossing folder, ribbon, pink diamond shaped brad, black Permapaque marker

Until they all come home...

>> Tuesday, June 19, 2012

Hi Everyone,

I love to make patriotic cards when summer is in full swing and nothing says USA like red, white and blue :) This Support Ribbon from the most recent release is a great stamp.  Due to the fact that it's open lined, you can make the ribbon any color you want.  I chose yellow for the troops, but it can be used for cancer support as well.  Not sure if you know this, but each type of cancer has it's own color for support.  Like I said, great stamp :)

I used the Retro Starburst for my "fireworks" background and Until They Come Home greeting as the focal point.  The ribbon I used as embellishment was knotted, rather than tied in a bow, only because it was from my scrap jar.  I had just enough to make it around.  Love it when that happens!

Thanks for dropping by today!

Happy Graduation!

>> Monday, June 18, 2012

Today I am in need of a couple more grad cards, so I'm sharing one I created for a friend's daughter. Her school colors are blue and white.

My card base is white card stock with a layer of blue, then another piece of white that's been stamped in Ballet Blue ink with DRS Designs grad background (984H). A blue ribbon was added before attaching the panel to the card base. The Congratulations gift card holder (1152K) was also stamped in Ballet Blue, as was the message (018D). After cutting close to the edges it was layered on the same blue card stock. I folded a quarter inch along the sides and bottom, cut the half circle in the top to make it easier to grab the gift card and then attached it with narrow score pal tape. The grad cap (287G) was stamped on the blue CS, cut out and attached with foam dots for some dimension. I added some blue sparkly dew drops to finish it off.

Until next time,
shelia

Lemonade in the Shade

>> Friday, June 15, 2012

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Julie Warner -justwritedesigns - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!
Since we're well on our way to summer, and we've been doing lots of sprucing up the yard and working outside, I thought a little lemonade might hit the spot! On a hot summer day, doesn't a tall glass of ice cold lemonade just sound terrific?

This great Lemonade Pitcher and Citrus Border are sneak peeks of some fabulous new DRS Designs images coming soon! The sentiment is actually part of a much longer, Cool Summertime Greeting. The Lemonade Pitcher was stamped, colored and cut out. I added a little stickles to the ice cubes for some sparkle. The Citrus Border was stamped with a rainbow pad in citrusy colors. The background was embossed with a folder and I flipped it over and used the backside, or debossed side, masked the edges w/ painter's tape and brayered over it with the same ink pad.

I used a scallop edge die on the bottom of the Citrus Border and the cut off piece looked pretty cool, so I brayered over it, turned it upside down and attached it at the bottom of the scallop edge. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend!

Supplies:
stamps: Lemonade Pitcher, Citrus Border (New! Coming Soon!), Cool Summertime Greeting

paper: white
ink: Ancient Page coal, Kaleidacolor Melon Melody rainbow pad
accessories: Tombow markers, stickles, Quickutz scallop border die & embossing frame folder

A Friendly Note

>> Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Hello Everyone! This is Chrissy here. We are on the mend in our house hold. My son has been such a trooper and has not complained once! All it takes is for one person to get injured before you realize how much they do to help around the house. *smile* I told him to enjoy his little vacation... Now in honor of my other two gremlins, I made this little piggy card. They seem to make the most mess and complain the most about picking it up!

Lately, I can not seem to get enough of this soft blue color (Pool party.) Since we are on "summer break," and I am stamping this card in honor of my two younger "piggies" (they really are just as cute as this Pig in a Puddle), I thought it fitting to use summery colors and a CAS layout. Using White Craft Ink, I stamped the Large Original Plaid on the Pool Party card stock. I then ran the celery card stock through the Big Shot with the embossing folder. I stamped in the Pig in a Puddle image using Rich Cocoa Memento Ink and colored it up with R12 and R20 Copic Marker. I colored the mud with the E15 and E13 Copic Marker and used Glassy glaze over the top of it. I wrapped twine around the layers (Mounted on Soft Suede card stock.) I then stamped the Friendly Note on white card stock in Rich Cocoa Memento Ink.

I hope where ever you are you have a WONDERFUL, SUMMERY day! Thank you for taking a look!!!

Chrissy D

Trendy Granny

>> Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Hi Everyone,

I have a bright, sunny card for you today and I can't help but smile as I look at Frisky Florence kicking up her heels.  If you looked up spunky in the dictionary (or is it Wikipedia now?) I think her photo might be right there!   She was colored with Copic markers and fussy cut.  I then layered her on some die cuts, one of which was dry embossed with some flowers.  I thought they would be a good match with the flowered paper I made using the Interlocking Flower background stamp.  I inked up that stamp 3 separate times using, yellow, orange and red dye ink, because I wanted it to match her outfit :) .

I stamped the trendy Unfriend You greeting, added some chalk shading in colors to match the ink, and attached it with some pop dots.  I finished it with a bow along the side that I attached with a glue dot.

Well, I hope you can kick up your heels and do a bit of stamping today.  Thanks for dropping by and remember you can find all of the newest stamps from DRS Designs right here.

Happy Monday!

>> Monday, June 11, 2012

Hope everyone had a great weekend! We had a family get together to celebrate my father in law's 90th birthday!

Today I want to share a birthday card featuring DRS Designs Un"frog"etable Birthday greeting (1077G). This sentiment makes a cute birthday card and pairs nicely with so many different stamps. I used Frog on a Log (252H) and Toadstools (405F).

The card base is white with a blue strip added to the middle. I stamped the Toadstools in Memento Bamboo ink on green CS, cut the edges with pinking shears and added the two strips to the top and bottom, leaving some of the blue exposed. A blue satin ribbon was added to the top layer. The Toadstools were also stamped in Memento Black on white CS, colored with Copics, cut out and popped up with foam dots. The main image and sentiment were stamped in Memento Black on white CS and layered on brown CS, after coloring the Frog on a Log with Copics.

The sky was sponged with SU Bashful blue. A corner punch was used on all corners of the card to complete the look.

Until next time,
shelia
