A Dogwood Thank You

>> Saturday, March 31, 2012

Good morning!  I can't believe how nice our weather is here in Colorado.  We have had truly unseasonably warm weather...and with that, everything is blooming!  We DO need rain though.
My card today features the new releases: Dogwood Branch (again) and our Brush Thank You greeting. I stamped the image in noir black around three of the edges and used pearlescent water colors on the flowers and old olive ink on the leaves.  An embossing folder was used on the barely banana and sage shadow was used as the card base.  The main image was stamped on a pale green and layered with black.  I folded the edge of the top right corner and added an antique brad. Head on over to the DRS Designs store for some beautiful images!
I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

Cat in a Bag

>> Friday, March 30, 2012

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!
Are y'all ready for a little paper engineering? This is a really fun "magic" slider card, I'm sure it's a lot harder to explain than it is do so I'll give you the link (it came from the Splitcoast resource files) and there are nice pics and a video to show you how to do it. Slider Card Link. I will say, I immediately thought the sentiment would be perfect for a split format and went looking for something to fit it. I think this layout works perfectly. As you can see, when closed, the two sentiment panels are hidden. When you pull on the tab at the top, they slide out simultaneously.
Of course when I made it, I didn't think about how hard it would be to take a pic of it. The camera just didn't want to focus on that tall an image so the top is a little fuzzy. You can see all the stamps I used, except for maybe the Birthday Song background. It's a little more visible in person. The candles were all cut out and added at the top. I started to put them at the bottom, then realized it kinda looked like they would set the bag on fire. Not good! I used an embossing folder on the bag part of the image and the finished (closed) size is just under 4.25 x 5.50.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend!

Supplies:

Don't Let the Cat Out of the Bag!

>> Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Hey Friends! This is Chrissy D here again! The card I am sharing today makes me smile. As a cat lover, I can see my cats play in a bag. One of our cats (we have four) is such a character and cracks us up daily with her antics.

I started by stamping the Cat In the Bag image from DRS Designs in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on White card stock. I colored the image with Prisma color Pencils, a paper stubby and Gamsol. Once it was colored, I cut it out using my paper snips. I then stamped the Cat's Meow Birthday Greeting  in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on White card stock and cut it out using my Large Circle Spellbinders.

Using Espresso Ink, I stamped the Easy Dot Background  on Regal Rose card stock and the Large Original Plaid on Kraft Card stock. I lightly sponged the white card stock with Kraft Ink and added Regal Rose dots using a marker.

I used Saffron card stock and the Scalloped Border Punch. Adhering all of the pieces together, I wrapped Espresso Ribbon around and tied a bow. Once completed, I added some felt flowers and gold brads using Glue Dots.

I hope you liked my project today! Thank you for stopping by! Have a great day!

Happy Tails

>> Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Hi Everyone,

Are you loving all the cards you've seen made with the cute puppy stamps that were released here at DRS Designs?   The make me want to get a dog...lol! And they make me nostalgic for my childhood pet named Sunshine :) Don't these Playful Pups just exude happiness through their wagging tails?!  I colored them with Copic markers and added some extra grass blades to the background of the cut out using the Easy Grass Background stamp.

I separated the sentiment in two parts and punched it out to match my image panel and used the Dog Paw and Easy Grass Background again for the base of the card.

Thanks for visiting :)

Happy Monday

>> Monday, March 26, 2012

Trust everyone had a good weekend. I cannot believe the beautiful weather we have been having! Everything is blooming and turning green. I love this time of the year.

Today I have a sympathy card to share with you that uses two recently released stamps from DRS Designs -the Leaf Butterfly Spray (1098M) and Extending Sympathy Sentiment (1090G).

The purple card base was embossed using the CB Damask folder. I stamped the Leaf Butterfly Spray on white card stock in Memento Black ink. After coloring the image with Copic markers, I cut it out, added a yellow layer and then attached it to the purple card.

The sentiment was also stamped on white card stock with Memento black ink and cut into a rectangle. I used the same yellow card stock for the Spellbinders' fancy tag die and attached the sentiment to the tag.  Hope you like it.

Until next time,
shelia

Get Well Soon

>> Saturday, March 24, 2012

Happy Saturday!  My post is late today as I actually got some sleep!
My card today features our new Dogwood Branch here at DRS Designs.  I stamped it numerous times and used a variety of pinks to color them on.  Some with the marker directly and some I used the blender pen.  I added a wee bit of glitter to the flower centers.  Old olive used for the leaves with a blender pen, too.  The baja breeze was added with a sponge.  A pretty ribbon on the corner and the one line Get Well Soon greeting used.

Have a wonderful and peaceful day!

Dogs Out!

>> Friday, March 23, 2012

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff
Happy Friday!
I hope your first week of Spring has been a blooming success! Aren't these playful pups cute? I colored them with markers and cut them out. The rest of the scene is all one layer and was done by stamping and masking. I thought the greeting was perfect with this open gate. The clouds were done with a self made stencil and a little sponging.
The little bones are part of the dog paw background and I cut them out and added them. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a terrific weekend!

Supplies:
stamps: Playful Pups, Dog Paw Background, Who Let the Dogs Out, Stonewall w/ Gate, Easy Grass Background, Single Fall Tree, Tree Line Border, Silhouette Branch Background (for the tree leaves)

FIELD OF SYMPATHY

>> Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Hello Friends! Sympathy cards are never the cards you WANT to make, but I find all too often, I do not have enough on hand. On my card today, I stamped the BROKEN FLOWER FENCE 1091K in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored the image with Prisma Color Pencils. I then used a Paper stubby and Gamsol and blended the colors in. I then used a Fantastix and White Craft Ink and sponged a cloud shape through out the sky area. Once I had the clouds as I wanted, I sprinkled White Embossing Powder and Heat Embossed the Clouds.

Using the Big Shot and Large Oval Spellbinders, I cut out an Oval in White Cardstock. I stamped the With Sympathy 687F in Memento Brown Ink. I used the Provocraft Gardens Embossing Folder on the Yellow Cardstock and layered that on a light blue card stock. I layered those pieces to the Chocolate Cardstock. I then added some Chocolate 5/8 Grosgrain Ribbon to the middle section of the card. To finish the card, I added the images using Pop Dots and added three brads to the side panel.

Thank you for stopping by! Have a GREAT day!

Sit, Stay and Have a Happy Day!

>> Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Hi Everyone,

I'm here showing off a card made with stamps from the newest release here at DRS Designs.  Personally I think they're a must have in your stamp collection, if you are a dog lover or make cards for the dog lover in your life :)  The new Wags the Dog stamp is just so cute!   I stamped him 3 times on brown and beige card stock and fussy cut him, adding some shading with my Copic markers.  The Sit Stay Greeting is one sentiment, but I inked up each phrase separately, punched them out and added one above each pup.

I used the Dog Paw Background stamp behind the sentiment, adding one paw print from it as embellishment on each portion of the phrase.

Be sure to stop by DRS Designs and check out all of the newest stamps right here!

Thanks so much for visiting with us here at the blog and have a great day!

Easter Bunny

>> Monday, March 19, 2012

Happy Monday Everyone! Today I want to share two cards created with the same DRS Design stamps and same layout. I made these for my two grandchildren for Easter. The cards are exactly the same, I just used different colored CS and Copics.

I started with a white card and added the green and pink panels after running them through the CB with the dotted swiss folder. The jelly beans (241D) were stamped in Memento Black on 1 1/4 in. white panels. After coloring the beans with various Copic Markers, the panels were attached to slightly larger yellow and purple panels and attached to the card. The Easter Bunny (639G) was stamped in Memento Black on white CS, colored with Copics, cut out and attached to the card with foam dots for dimension.

The sketch is from SCS Sketch Challenge last week. It's a fun and easy design.

Until next time,
shelia

Who let the dogs out???

>> Saturday, March 17, 2012

Happy Saturday!  We are still having record breaking temperatures here in Colorado and this fun, new Playful pups image makes believe in Spring!  Every time I use the Who let the dogs out greeting, I get that silly song stuck in my head. Who, who, who?....  Also, used the dog paw background on the kiwi kiss layer and then embossed that and the marina mist layer with the lattice ef.

Head on over to the DRS Designs store for lots of fun, fresh images to make some sweet creations!

Happy Tails to You!

>> Friday, March 16, 2012

by Julie Warner - The Write Stuff

Happy Friday!
I hope your week has been fabulous! This started out to be my CAS Challenge card for yesterday (if you haven't seen the DRS Thursday Challenge, please check it out!) But as things sometimes do, it got out of hand and ended up not as CAS as it was supposed to be. After the mishap, I surrendered and added a few more layers and extras.

It was going really well and I guess that should have been my first clue that it was all about to head south. My little dog Spot (or should I say Spots), was stamped and I added a little tan color to him and some spots cause he just looks like a Spot to me. And I had made a pretty quick background on the tan c/s using just one stripe of the woven plaid border. I was attaching Spot to his layer and I dunno...something that looked like ink...don't know where it came from...smudged the upper right WHITE corner of Spot's little box. I was able to save Spot by cutting him out and attaching him to another white layer (I washed my hands first). But by then it wasn't CAS any more.

So I punched the lower edge of the greeting panel then used pinking shears on it. I used a 1" circle punch on the button ribbon slide and threaded thru some left over thin strips of bg. I attached it to a slightly larger die cut circle and my 4.25 x 5.50 card was finished. Not exactly CAS but not too involved either.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend!

Supplies:
stamps: Happy Tails to You Greeting, Wags the Dog, Woven Plaid, Button Ribbon Slide
paper: white, tan, black
ink: Ancient Page Coal, Fluid Chalk toffee
accessories: Tombow markers, black Permapaque marker, 1" circle punch, Spellbinders circle die, Argyle border punch (EK Success), pinking shears
